New Castle is located in the northern portion of Kentucky and serves as the county seat of Henry County. It has a population of about 919 people according to the 2000 United States Census. The town was settled in the 1790s and was established as the county seat of Henry County whenever the county was established in 1798. New Castle was incorporated as a city in 1817.
Despite New Castle’s size, there are many things to see and do in the town. It is one of the smallest towns in the state with a preservation district. New Castle is certified in both the Kentucky Main Street and Preserve America programs. The town has put a large amount of effort into preserving its rich historical past and much of their effort is on display throughout the town. The Courthouse Clock is located in downtown New Castle and is a restored 1877 clock. The Henry County History Center is also located in downtown New Castle. The center is housed in an 1863 Italianate home that was restored by the Henry County Historical Society. Inside of the building is many artifacts and exhibits that display the town’s rich history.
Weather in New Castle tends to be drastically different with each season. The summers in the town are generally warm and humid. Daytime temperatures range from the mid to upper-80s on average. Rainfall during this time of year is very common. The month of June has an average of almost 5 inches of rainfall each year. Residents will find it wise to invest in a cooling system that is capable of keeping the warmer temperatures outside during the months of summer.
New Castle experiences winters that are characterized by cold temperatures and snowfall. Daytime temperatures during the coldest months of the year range from the lower to upper-40s on average.
